On my head be it, say men who won’t wear a ski helmet

They’re proven to save lives – but men in particular are still willing to risk their safety when skiing by not wearing a helmet.

In the latest poll by HolidayExtras.com, the UK market leader for travel add-ons, less than half those interviewed – 47 per cent – said they thought skiers in Europe should be required by law to wear a helmet.

A reckless 21 per cent of men said they thought that wearing a helmet should remain optional, compared with just six per cent of women.

Winter sports expert Antonia Le-Bapty comments: “Once the preserve of the hardcore, helmets are becoming ever more popular for recreational skiers and boarders. For many – both male & female – a helmet is now a standard piece of equipment.”

Ben Alexander, head of marketing at HolidayExtras.com, said: “When helmets have saved numerous lives it’s very surprising that so many people still wouldn’t necessarily wear one.

“There is an issue about personal choice, and perhaps that’s more important to men – or perhaps they are just happier to take a risk with their safety than women.”
