Naked calendar raises so much more than the bare minimum

Calendar girls and boys at Hythe company have raised £1,000 for charity.

The company presented £500 each to Kent Air Ambulance and Macmillan Cancer Care after selling 200 copies of its 2011 naked staff calendar.

Customer service executive Kate Davis, the brains behind the calendar, said: “Everything about it was better than I imagined, from putting it together to the number of copies we sold.

“About half the calendars went to staff – the rest went to suppliers, visitors, friends and family and customers in pubs where the calendar was on sale. One calendar has even gone to America!”

And even though the excitement from this year’s calendar has barely died down, there’s already talk of next year’s.

“A lot of people have said they’d like to put their names down for next year so I am 90 per cent sure there will be one,” Kate said.

Critical care paramedic Jez Loseby, from Kent Air Ambulance, and Laura Kennedy, Macmillan Cancer Care’s fundraising manager, collected the cheques at the company’s Newingreen office on Tuesday.

Mr Loseby said: “Each flight the ambulance makes costs £1,700, so this is a fantastic sum of money for us, especially from selling the calendars – I couldn’t do it!”

Laura Kennedy added: “It’s our centenary this year so it means a huge amount to us to receive a donation like this – we rely on donations for 99 per cent of our funding.

“£25 pays for an hour of care from a Macmillan nurse; £350 provides a grant for a cancer sufferer, which can help them pay for anything from a wig to their heating bill.

“It looks like everyone had a really fun time making the calendar – I’m looking forward to next year’s!”
