Despite being bombarded by images of day-glo reality TV personalities and bronzed movie stars, it seems an all-year-round tan is no longer in fashion with British travellers; according to a new poll by HolidayExtras.com, the UK’s largest add-ons provider.

A-list celebrities, wags and Essex girls have championed the orange glow for years but a mere 3% of HolidayExtras.com customers use fake tan all year round, and a huge 85% claim they never indulge as they simply don’t need it.

Ninety-eight per cent of men are happy to forego the David Dickinson mahogany look completely, whilst 71% of women would rather emulate porcelain beauties Anne Hathaway or Nicole Kidman than the queen of the tango-tan, Katie Price.

Five per cent of customers admitted to cultivating an amber glow in preparation for an important event; 4% apply some colour before revealing all on holiday; and 3% use it after their break to extend a natural tan.
