Good news for retailers; most Brits will refuse to let money worries curb their festive spending this year, as revealed by HolidayExtras.com in its Christmas spending survey.

When asked if their Christmas gift-giving habits would change this year in light of a tough economic climate, almost three quarters of men (71%) and over half of women polled (56%) claimed that they will be splashing out the same amount, or even more, than last year.

There’s good news for those who plan to hand-make their gifts to bridge a budget shortfall; 42 per cent of men and 68 per cent of women consider homemade presents a lovely, thoughtful idea.

Typically, most people will be spending the majority of their Christmas budget on presents (65%) however the traditional festive feast was also a high priority, with 22% claiming that they’ll spend the bulk of their Christmas money to ‘eat, drink and be merry’.
Breaking with tradition, eleven per cent of HolidayExtras.com customers are planning a festive break but a mere 2% will be heading to the panto.

Anthony Clarke Cowell, HolidayExtras.com’s associate merchandising director, said of the results: “It’s heartwarming to see that Brits are determined to enjoy themselves and to ensure that Christmas remains a bright point on our horizons, no matter how gloomy the financial or international situation.”
