Travellers read customer reviews and online forums

It seems that word of mouth is as powerful as ever, with most people relying on advice from other tourists when searching for information about their holiday destination.

A recent poll by HolidayExtras.com, the UK’s largest travel add-ons provider, has revealed that holidaymakers think people who have already visited the same area (31%) and online forums (29%) provide the most reliable information about a holiday region.

The majority of travellers prefer to research their destination before they depart, with just 7% relying on their hotel reception or information desks in resort and 11% chatting to locals for insider tips. Twenty-two per cent of HolidayExtras.com customers use guidebooks to prepare for their holiday.
