Leading travel blogger Melvin Boecher, founder of traveldudes.org, has selected his two winners of the Holiday Extras PeoplePics competition.
After much deliberation, he decided that ‘Cards’ by Jenny Downing stood out against stiff competition because of the story it tells, and was worthy of the £750 Thomas Cook voucher.
“You see the friendliness in all the faces and the guy in front seems to be a bit irritated. He seems to be happy to meet a traveller but, on the other side, is scared that the traveller or someone else might look into his cards. I guess he got a strong set of cards,” said Melvin.
‘Cheeky Monkeys’ by Neil Hedge was named the funniest entry by Melvin, winning Neil an iPad2.
“That photo shows what travel is all about! You see a very happy traveller who just got back from an amazing sight in India. The Indian temples are incredibly beautiful and you see how nicely this one is hidden in the mountains. That photo shows the special experience the traveller had at this palace…” He adds: “Did I miss anything else in that photo? Any other story that photo might tell?'”
Holiday Extras received 200 entries to the social media competition. Travellers and travel bloggers just had to upload a post with a maximum of two pictures of people onto their travel blog or website, and inform Holiday Extras via Twitter or Facebook. Entrants without their own website were able to send in their People Pics via Facebook.
