Avoid the Christmas rail cancellation chaos

Disruptions to Gatwick and Heathrow Train lines until the New Year.

Catching any last minute flights for the Christmas getaway may prove a little trickier this year with disruptions to major train lines linking London to Gatwick and Heathrow airports. GWR train operator have announced closures which are due to extensive engineering work in preparation for the launch of the cross-rail in 2019. Train services linking London with Gatwick and Heathrow will resume on 4th January.

Passengers are advised to allow at least an extra hour on to their journey when taking the alternative rail routes, which can be viewed on Gatwick Airport’s Christmas Rail Travel page.

National Express coaches will continue to run from Victoria Station to both Gatwick and Heathrow airports.

To avoid the last minute rush to catch the flight, travellers can book an airport hotel in advance with Holiday Extras, enjoying a peaceful night before the flight, and waking up only minutes away from the airport’s terminal.

Ant Clarke Cowell, Communications Director at Holiday Extras commented: “Booking an airport hotel removes all the worry about getting delayed and missing your flight – you can start your Christmas holiday with a relaxing night in a comfortable, warm hotel instead.”

Prices for hotels around Gatwick airport start from £35 for room only and £54 with eight days parking. Last minute deals from Heathrow for hotels start from £47 for room only and £61 with eight days parking.
