Holiday Extras are the new 2016 Aviation Cup titleholders.
The football event, organised by Eastern Airways, was an open invite for July 16th to the aviation world nationwide.
In a day of tough competition at the PowerLeague soccerdome in Derby; Holiday Extras played top teams including Skyscanner, tripadvisor, BMI Regional, Eastern Airways, Monarch Airlines and more.
Finishing top in all categories and reaching the final unbeaten in the previous 9 games was a massive achievement, but the 10th and final game against last years’ cup winners, Rolls Royce would prove challenging.
A sustained effort with strategic play by Holiday Extras paved the way to a 3-0 victory and their star player Rhys Morison being named Player of the Tournament.
Peter Smith, Head of Airline Business Development, said: “Thanks to Eastern Airways and all 17 teams involved this year, we had a fantastic day. This tournament to me represents what our industry is about – having fun in a competitive environment, striving to be the best and doing so together as a team.”
Tim Horwood, Head of Commercial Systems at EASTERN AIRWAYS, organiser the event commented: ”This is our third year running this event and it continues to build momentum and support from the Aviation industry. There’s been some cracking football played this year and we congratulate the new holders of the cup, Holiday Extras, for their brilliant performance.”
Named Player of the Tournament, Rhys Morison, commented: “We are so excited to win this trophy and it sits in pride-of-place for all to see in reception. It was a real team effort and we played to our strengths – just like we do everyday.”
